SC students protest for not providing examination forms without charging fee under Post Matric Scholarship Scheme

Ferozepur, March, 1: The SC students of Shaheed Udham Singh College Mohan Ke Hittar under the leadership of Punjab Students Union, today sat on dharna in front of the college in protest not giving the examination forms to them without charging any fee. Apart from this, they also demanded the refund of college fees already deposited by them.
Addressing the protesters, Gurdeep Singh, Jaswinder Singh, Desa Singh and Seema Rani said, As per the instructions, the scheme of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment to provide financial assistance to the SC/BC students started in July 2010. The SC student can seek admission in any educational institution under Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme and the scheme is funded both by the State and Centre government and grant to the institution will be given on submission of a claim on receipt of grant from the Centre. As per the scheme, no college can charge any tuition fee from an SC/BC student, whose parent’s income from all sources does not exceed Rs.2 lakh per annum.
They further said, a memorandum was also submitted to the Deputy Commissioner but no action has so far been taken and they have been compelled to resort to agitation again and in case the fee is not refunded and examination forms are not provided without any fee, they will intensify the agitation.
