Rural Postal Workers Union threatens for indefinite nationwide strike from April 25
Fazilka, April 9, 2017: The Rural Postal Workers Union (RPWU) threatened for indefinite nationwide strike from April 25 to register their protest urging the government for the fulfillment of their long pending demands.
Giving this information, Jaswinder Singh Brar and others said, “Resentment was expressed in the meeting held today for non-implementation of 7th Pay Commission Report of Gramin Dak Sewaks (GDS)”.
Several Gramin Dak Sevaks (GDS) are serving in rural areas across the country as part-time employees, earning a monthly salary of Rs. 3,000 to Rs. 4,000.
The Union government should revise the wage structure, regularise services and provide benefits to GDS on a par with the Union government employees, they demanded.
The GDS were originally distributing posts. Now, owing to the lack of sufficient number of regular employees at the department, the GDS are distributing speed posts and registered posts, money orders and parcels, and also collecting small savings and insurance premiums from the customers, they said.
The protestors also opposed the move to privatize/corporatize certain services of the postal department.
