Remembering Hockey Magician and Flying Sikh on National Sports Day
Ferozepur August 29, 2018: The students of Govt. Senior Secondary School, Kassoana in Ferozepur remembered Hockey Magician Dhyan Chand and Flying Sikh Milkha Singh on National Sports Day celebrations.
Marathon organized with participation of 285 students, was flagged off by the Chief Guest followed by sports competition in various events besides painting, writing and quiz competitions.
August 29 marks the birth anniversary of India’s hockey wizard, Major Dhyan Chand – a phenomenal athlete, who put India on the map back when the world continued to be plagued by wars and political bloodshed.
On this day, Milkha Singh, also known as The Flying Sikh, was also remembered, who is an Indian former track and field sprinter who was introduced to the sport while serving in the Indian Army. He was the only Indian athlete to win an individual athletics gold medal at a Commonwealth Games until Krishna Poonia won the discus gold medal at the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
Principal Neelam Dhawan welcomedNek Singh, District Education Officer was the Chief Guest of the function and Jagdeep Pal Singh Incharge School Education Reforms Committee was Special Guest.
Nek Singh, DEO speaking on the occasion said, education, as well as sports, are important for the students as the physical activity keep them physically and mentally fit. Sports are a useful way to remain active outside of school even and they have many other benefits as well.
Jagdeep Pal Singh advised the students to fix the target of their life to be successful in life with special reference of achievements of Dhyan Chand – Hockey Magician and Milkha Singh – Flying Sikh in the field of sports.
An oath was also administered among the students, by Narbhay Singh – a shining student of the school, to remain away from drugs.
