Ferozepur, February 3, 2023: Ramandeep Singh, (6’-4” tall, 36 years), who has won gold medal in 400 m hurdles, hailing from Balewala village in Ferozepur, is forced to work as night Security Guard, to look after his old parents.

Sharing his struggled life, in a choked voice Ramandeep said, it is very unfortunate that despite being a citizen of independent India, I have number of medals and testimonials to my credit, I could not get a job in government.

He said, there had been five advertisements floated during the SAD-led government, and I had given trials number of times, in the police department. I had high expectations of my selection, being qualified for the tests, but to my surprise, I could not retain my merit, because of ‘sifarish’ or money recommendations.

He said, I had practiced at Jalandhar Sports College in 2005 where top players like Vicky Gounder, Pamma Lahoria also used to practice.  All they had chosen the wrong path but I stick to my game.

However, parents of Ramandeep Singh cursed the time being not in their favour and have to work as Security Guard saying that had we been having funds to feed the middlemen to pay funds, my son could have got the job?

Making an appeal to the Chief Minister, Bhagwant Singh Mann, Ramandeep who is working as Security Guard at Rs.7,000  and both his father and mother with tears rolling down on their cheeks, said, we don’t have too much agriculture land and having no other business.  We request for a job in the government so that I may look after my parents in their old age.

Physically and emotionally exhausted parents of Ramandeep, who run the day today affairs by selling milk from only one cattle, still have hope from the Bhagwant Singh Mann, Chief Minister to recognize the sports talent of our son.
