Punjab Students Union demands refund of fee charged from SC students, submits memorandum to DC
Ferozepur, February 11: Punjab Students Union on Tuesday protested in front of the DC Office demanding refund of fee charged by the college from SC students violating the government instructions.
As per the instructions, the scheme of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment to provide financial assistance to the SC/BC students started in July 2010. The SC student can seek admission in any educational institution under Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme and the scheme is funded both by the State and Centre government and grant to the institution will be given on submission of a claim on receipt of grant from the Centre. As per the scheme, no college can charge any tuition fee from an SC/BC student, whose parent’s income from all sources does not exceed Rs.2 lakh per annum.
Speaking on this occasion, Paramjit Kaur, Paramjit Singh, Deepa Ran and Harpreet Kaur demanded the refund of fee being charged by Shaheed Udham Singh College of Mohan Ke Hittar and fill up the vacant posts of teachers so that students’ may not suffer of their student as there are no teachers of English subject.
Putting another demand of stoppage of all buses in front of the college, the Union leaders also wanted the immediate release of scholarships pending since long.
Later a memorandum was also submitted to the Deputy Commissioner by a deputation of Punjab Students Union.
