Punjab State Office Employees Union announces state-wide protest Over unmet demands
PROTEST BY EMPLOYEES OVER UNMET DEMANDS
Union to hold protest on Aug 23, gives deadline to accept demands by Sept 4
Ferozepur, August 22, 2024: The Punjab State Office Employees Union has declared a state-wide protest against the government following unmet demands. The announcement was made by State President Tajinder Singh Nangal, who stated that despite a formal request made by the union to address their demands by August 16, 2024, the government has neither scheduled a meeting nor issued any response regarding the demands. This has led the union to believe that the government is not taking their concerns seriously.
District leaders Sonu Kashyap, Ritu Arora, and Vishal Mehta emphasized that the union has now given the government a deadline of September 4, 2024, to act on their demands. In the lead-up to this deadline, the union has planned a series of protests. On August 23, 2024, a gate rally will be held by office workers at the main gates of all Deputy Commissioner (DC) offices across Punjab. Additionally, symbolic protests will take place on August 26 and 30, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM at various DC offices.
In case the government fails to address their demands by the September 4 deadline, the union has warned of a complete closure of all DC, SDM, Tehsil, and Sub-Tehsil offices across Punjab from September 5 to September 10, 2024. The primary demand is the creation of vacancies according to standards set by the government 30 years ago, which the union argues would provide much-needed government jobs to educated unemployed individuals. The union also highlighted several non-financial demands critical for the well-being of employees.
The district president, Sonu Kashyap, affirmed that similar protests will be organized in the Ferozepur district as part of this statewide struggle, placing the onus on the Punjab government to address their grievances.
