Police register FIR against deceased doctor
Ferozepur, March 8, 2024: Ferozepur police has come under flak for registering a case of negligence against a deceased doctor who had died during the investigation period. It took around 4 years for the police to investigate the complaint lodged in 2020 against the doctor and a nurse of a private hospital.
More than 4 years back, a case was registered, now without conducting proper investigations, on the complaint of Balwinder Singjh Basti Chahal near Mallanwala in Ferozepur at Ferozepur City police station under Section 326 IPC, against Dr Sunir Thakkar owner Thakkar Hospital (now deceased) and staff Nurse Tina of Ferozepur.
As per the report, Paramjit Kaur, wife of Balwinder Singh complainant was admitted to Thakkar Hospital for treatment on January 15, 2020. On the advice of the doctor, a staff nurse steamed Paramjit Kaur’s entire face with a steamer resulting in a burning of skin. Later on, she was admitted to Medicity Moga after staying at Thakkar Hospital for about 10 days. The complainant has alleged that his wife’s face has become ugly, due to the negligence of the doctor and Nurse.
It is a matter of concern that the police took more than 4 years to investigate the case and ultimately registered the case against the doctor, who has already expired and the staff Nurse now without verifying the present status. One can well imagine the plight of pending cases with the police investigating officers.
When contacted the IO, he denied having any information as the case file has not been received by him so far. However, the sources said that in such cases, it was a routine practice and would be rectified as per provisions and facts.
