Ferozepur, February 18, 2023:  Taking to social media to apprise the public of the modus operandi of cyber criminals, in the advisory, the police have asked not to share any personal information with the stranger especially asking for OTP (One Time Password) to upgrade the 5G services on the SIM card.

It further said that 5G services on mobile SIM card have been started and cyber  said fraudsters ask residents to click on a link to generate an OTP (one-time password) to upgrade their 4G connection, asking the people to be aware of such criminals who might try to contact you on the pretext of upgrading your internet services. Sharing the OTP gives fraudsters access to their bank accounts.

Added here, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had formally launched 5G services in India on October 1 in select cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Varanasi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Siliguri and Nagpur.

Cyber cell, in-charge, said, Telecom companies do not ask for OTPs for providing 5G services. One should not share OTPs or other sensitive information with strangers. Residents should not open unverified links as it could give fraudsters access to private data.

However, the police teams are also carrying out awareness campaigns in educational institutions and on social media to sensitise the masses, he added.
