Police crack interstate sex determination racket
Ferozepur, December 11, 2018: The Ferozepur police at Zira, have busted an interstate gang of conducting illegal sex determination tests by impounding the ultrasound machine to different stations in a mobile van and claimed to have arrested some gang members along with the machine.
Added here, on the complaint of District Appropriate Authority-cum-Civil Surgeon Ferozepur, Surinder Kumar, the Zira police came to know that sex determination tests of pregnant women are being conducted by taking the ultrasound machine in one of the colony of the city. In a secret operation by the police, all the equipments for conducting the ultrasound tests were recovered from the residence of Mangal Dass son of Chet Ram resident of Ward No.13 near Mohalla Gogoani Gurdawara Singh Sabha.
Divulging with more details, DSP Zira Narinder Singh said, in a joint operation a trap was laid, by the police and health department, one woman as a decoy patient, was sent for conducting sex determination test who was informed about the expected delivery of boy and a fee of Rs.30,000 was taken from her. The woman immediately gave this information to the police and health department and on raiding; some more women who had come for gender tests were nabbed.
He further said the gang team was having a portable ultrasound machine fitted in the Bolero vehicle for doing the sex determination tests in Punjab and other adjoining states – Rajasthan and Haryana by charging a fee of Rs.20,000 to Rs,30,000. Further investigation has been initiated by the police to bring on surface as to how long the gang has been doing this business and in what areas.
