Pelting stones at moving trains: Railways launches awareness drive in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, September 11, 2024: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) in the Ferozepur division has launched a comprehensive campaign to curb incidents of stone pelting on moving trains.
Under the guidance of Divisional Security Commissioner Rishi Pandey and led by Inspector Kailash Chandra Dhillaur, a special team is conducting thorough investigations and patrols in and around the stations especially at Ludhiana where such an incident was noticed. The team collaborates with RPF posts to identify offenders and raise awareness about the crime’s severe consequences, which can result in severe injuries or fatalities. The public is urged to report any suspicious activity to the RPF immediately.
He said, Stone pelting on trains is a criminal offence and can result in imprisonment. The campaign aims to stop stone pelting and ensure safe journeys for everyone. This will encourage the people to report incidents of stone pelting promptly besides emphasizing increasing surveillance at vulnerable locations. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) will take strict legal action against offenders.
However, some reasons why people pelt stones at trains include: fun, competition, and Social media reels, said a commuter.
