PCMS Association condemns against reduction in Non-Practising Allowance
Ferozepur, June 25, 2021: On a call from PCMS Association, the doctors in the state went on strike against the reduction in non practising allowance (NPA) and leaving the patients high and dry.
The state government’s decision of decreasing the Non-Practising Allowance (NPA) and de-linking it from basic pay according to the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission has drawn criticism and doctors have united under a single umbrella. In this agitation, the Vet, Rural and Ayurvedic doctors and dental doctors also joined in this protest.
Dr.Jatinder Kochhar, President and Dr.David Augustin General Secretary said, the 25 per cent NPA had been a part of the basic pay for all intents and purposes but the same has been reduced to 20 percent in the 6th Pay Commission and apart from this, no allowance will be a part of the basic pay.
They said, it is a discrimination and injustice with the doctors who had worked as warrior during the Corona period. Instead of boosting their morale, the doctors community have been harassed with the abolition of NPA allowance.
Dr Gagandeep Singh, State President, Punjab Civil Medical Services (PCMS), said, the doctors are risking their lives every day in this pandemic. We hoped for a financial gift from the Sixth Pay Commission. It has, however, reduced the NPA, which has resulted in huge financial loss to our community. He said, rather the NPA allowance should be increased to 33 percent and it should continue to a part of the basic pay as hitherto.
Giving a warning to the government, they said, in case the demands of the doctors are not accepted, the agitation will be intensified.
