Ferozepur, May 15, 2024:  Pak-based Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation remembered Shaheed Sukhdev (born on 15 May 1907) – a close friend of Bhagat Singh, on his 118th birth anniversary, over celebrations at the Democratic Lawn of Lahore High Court Bar, under the leadership of Imtiaz Rasheed Qureshi, Chairman, by cutting the birthday cake.

The Chief Guest of the event were Mian Ghulamullah Khan Joya Advocate Supreme Court, Raja Zulqarnain Advocate Supreme Court, Madam Nasreen Khattak Advocate Supreme Court, Rana Ghulam Sarwar Advocate Supreme Court, Chaudhry Zubair Ahmad Farooq Advocate Supreme Court.  Court, Syed Sibtain Akhtar Bukhari Advocate Supreme Court, Shehbaz Rasheed Qureshi Advocate, Muhammad Afzal Chaudhry Advocate, Syed Shamshad Hussain Qadri, Muhammad Haroon Rajput, Junaid Ahmed Paracha Advocate, Dr Shahid Naseer, and other personalities, who attended and addressed the event.

Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar, and Shivaram Rajguru – some of the most revered figures of the Indian freedom struggle – were hanged on March 23, 1931, in Punjab’s Hussainwala (now in Pakistan). The execution spurred many youths to take up the revolutionary path, playing a vital role in energising the fight against the British Empire.

Qureshi said the likes of Sukh Dev Thapar are born after centuries. They were hanged in the Saunders murder case at the age of 23 along with Bhagat Singh and Rajguru on March 23, 1931, in Camp Jail Lahore.  They were immortalised forever. We are enjoying freedom due to the great sacrifice of Sukhdev along with Bhagat Singh and Rajguru.

He demanded that the history of martyrs including Sukhdev Thapar should be included in the education curriculum, his commemorative stamps and coins should be issued and a major highway should be named after Sukhdev Thapar.
