On 3rd consecutive day, 3 mobiles were seized from Central Jail
Ferozepur, December 7, 2023: On the third consecutive day, the alert jail staff, on getting a tip-off, recovered three mobiles from the jail premises, during the search operation.
Earlier, during the last two days, three mobiles along with seven other banned items from the packet were tossed into Jail and three mobiles again from another packet on the second day. Almost every month there has been recovery of mobiles and a total of 429 mobiles have been seized by alert staff, on a tip-off, sudden raids, lying unclaimed or from the thrown packets over the 30 ft barbed wire fitted high walls.
With frequent recovery of banned items from the jail especially the mobiles – the most wanted gadget, it is observed that the criminals are locked up to protect communities from their actions and it is unacceptable for them to continue their life of crime behind bars. The number of mobile phones inside has increased massively in the past, with most commentators attributing the poor security arrangements at the entry point. Given the regular recovery of mobiles and other banned items from the jail, there is a need to intensify the security measures to prevent prisoners from accessing mobile phones. The alternative to put a check on the banned items entry is to disallow the visitation to the prisoners, as another punishment.
While one mobile was recovered during the search operation by Sarabjit Singh, Assistant Superintendent, on getting the information, from barrack number 3 with SIM Card, the other two mobiles were found on sudden checking of block number 2, barrack number 1 with battery and SIM card.
A case under Section 52-A of the Prisons Act has been registered against one prisoner Jaskirat Singh alias Jassi and unknown persons and further investigations are with Gurmail Singh IO.
