NGOs demand Election Manifesto as ‘Legal Tender’
Ferozepur, January 10, 2017: In view of past experiences of the people for not fulfilling the promises made by the political parties in the political manifestos released before the elections, the NGOs – a group of old timers with vast experiences, have demanded from the Election Commission of India to declare the Election Manifestos as ‘Legal Tender’ .
Speaking to this correspondent, the local NGOs – working for the welfare of the society – Kulbhushan Gautam, President Vinod Goyal, General Secretary, Senior Citizens Forum, Hari Ram Khindri, President, Brahamin Sabha, Rakesh Sharma Secreary, Samaj Kalyan Sabha, Inder Singh Gogia, President, Coordination Society said most of the political parties make all claims of development projects without disclose the source of generation of revenue with the result hardly the promises made are fulfilled during their five years term.
Just before the next elections, the political leaders again come forward with various false promises which too cannot be fulfilled but there is no accountability on this account, they added.
They further said the Election Commission should get the Election Manifesto declared as ‘legal tender’ like currency notes by the RBI and in the event of non-implementation of the same during the next five years’ term on coming to power, the particular political party should be barred from contesting the next elections.
Stating the pending promises, they said, the sewerage in the city could not be laid resulting in choking and flood like situation during heavy rains in the city.
Sources said the funds allotted for the laying the sewerage system could not be fully utilized with one or the other reason and the ultimate sufferer are local residents.
With these arrangements, the political parties will release the manifestos only for which they would be able to extend the services to the society, they added.
