Nelson Mandela International Day celebrated in Central Jail
Ferozepur, July 18, 2017: Nelson Mandela International Day was celebrated at the local Central Jail on the birthday of Nelson Mandela – former President, South Africa and Nobel Prize winner.
Every year on 18 July — the day Nelson Mandela was born — the UN asks individuals around the world to mark Nelson Mandela International Day, by making a difference in their communities.
Everyone has the ability and the responsibility to change the world for the better and Mandela Day is an occasion for everyone to take action and inspire change.
Speaking on this occasion, Ajmer Singh, Superintendent Jail, highlighted the life history of Nelson Mandela and put wiser the jail inmates about his valuable ideas.
He said, for 67 years Nelson Mandela devoted his life to the service of humanity — as a human rights lawyer, a prisoner of conscience, an international peacemaker and the first democratically elected president of a free South Africa. Nelson Mandela was a man, who worked for democracy, human rights, peace and freedom, and because of his work, he was honored with the Nobel Prize.
Jail Superintendent inspired the jail inmates to do good in the rest of their life. He said that the main aim of celebrating such a day is to provide information about the prominent personalities, so that you too can do good work in the coming time and set an example for humanity.
Present among others on this occasion were – Deputy Superintendent, Baldev Singh Kang, Assistant Superintendent and officials of Jail Department.
