Congress could not field candidates in all 31 wards
Ferozepur, February 16: On the last day of withdrawing nominations for elections to Municipal Council/Nagar Panchayats, 165 candidates withdrew their nominations leaving 270 candidates in race, who have been allotted different elections symbols.
Giving this information, Smt.Neelma, Addl. District Election Officer-cum-Addl.Deputy Commissioner said, in all 165 candidates have withdrawn their nominations on the last day – 24 Ferozepur, 46 Talwadi Bhai, 35 Zira, 8 Guruharsahai and 29 of Nagar Panchaya Mamdot and 23 of Mudki.
She said, after withdrawing of nominations by 8 candidates at Guruharsahai, 15 Akali-BJP candidates from all the 15 wards stands declared unopposed. It may be mentioned that Rana Sodhi Congress MLA from Guruharsahai have alleged that Akali-BJP leaders and supporters are hand in glove with the government as Congress candidates were not allowed to file their papers. A case has also been registered for Thursday incident at Guruharsahai against SAD leaders Montu Vohra and Gursewak Singh Mann alias Kash and a few others for thrashing Congress nominee Atamjit Singh David and Arsih Demra alias Nikku under Sections 379, 323, 148, 149, 427 of IPC on the complaint of one of the victims.
She further said, out of 31 wards in Ferozepur, the candidates in 2 wards have been elected as unopposed and in the remaining 29 wards, 99 candidates have been left. Similarly, out of 13 wards of Talwandi Bhai Municipal Council, in 8 Wards, the candidates stands declared as unopposed and for the remaining 5 wards, there are 14 candidates in race. In Nagar Council, Zira, 68 candidates in 17 wards, 41 candidates in 13 wards of Nagar Panchayat and 28 candidates in 13 wards of Nagar Panchayat Mudki have been left to contest for the elections.
She further said, all arrangements for conducting the elections have been finalized. She also appealed to the candidates and voters to cooperate with the district administration for conducting the elections peacefully.
Mandeep Kaur, BJP Candidate from Ward Number 13 has been elected unopposed as her rival, an independent candidate from this ward Balvir Kaur withdrawn her name today. Charanjit Kaur, a sitting MC and a Candidate of SAD was already elected unopposed from ward number 21 since no candidate was in the opposition. Her Husband Navneet Gora is SAD’s City President.
Congress could not field candidates in all 31 wards. The congress could field only 26 candidates for the upcoming MC elections, where BJP has fielded 23 Candidates and SAD has fielded 8 candidates as per the seat sharing formula
There are few wards where Indepndent candidates can give a tough competition to the candidates fielded by the parties.
