Mother, wife of a prisoner booked for smuggling mobile in jail
Ferozepur, November 27, 2017: A case has been registered against mother and wife of a prisoner for making a futile attempt to provide mobile in the central jail. Recovery of mobile phones from inside the jail has become a regular feature putting the security arrangements at high risk.
It may be put in here that in jail inmates are forbidden from possessing mobile phones due to their ability to communicate with the outside world and other security issues. Mobiles are one of the most smuggled items into prisons. It provides inmates the ability to make and receive unauthorized phone calls, send mail and text messages use social media and follow news pertaining to their case.
The security concerns are often cited for why cell-phones are forbidden for prisons. Security of staff is often less intense because this would be time-consuming on the part of the staff. Sometime back, the jail inmates were allowed to use the PCOs inside the jail occasionally in the presence of jail staff but those who have to use it for harmless communications manage its smuggling to use them for illegal activity.
Either there is connivance of the staff for reaching the mobile phone in the hands of inmates or it could be said as negligence or physically not possible for thorough checking every inmate after the meeting in the jail premises.
As per information available, Paramjit Kaur and Sandip Kaur, both residents of Gurdaspur met Rajbir Singh who is lodged at central jail Ferozepur. Paramjit was the mother and Sandip was the wife of prisoner Rajbir.
After their meeting, when Paramjit and Sandip were leaving, the jail staff sensing something wrong, checked the belongings of Rajbir Singh again and recovered a mobile charger (with wire and a plug).

In another case earlier, an inmate of the central jail was booked for an attempt to damage the closed circuit cameras installed in the barracks. As per information, a case has been registered against the erring prisoner Kirpal Singh in this connection. Sources said that Kirpal tried to temper the wiring of CCTV cameras following which the jail officials lodged the complaint with the police. When contacted, Avtar Singh, SHO, Ferozepur City said that a case under sections 427 IPC & Prevention of damage to Public Property Act 1984 at city police station (Case Number 346 Dated 25.11.2017).
