Mobiles recovery from Ferozepur jail expose security chinks
Ferozepur, January 15, 2023: The jail authorities are facing an uphill task with the regular recovery of mobiles from inside the jail from the inmates or as unclaimed or in the packets thrown from outside. Even, during the search operation carried out by Rishavpal Goal, Assistant Superintendent Jail, on Sunday, one mobile was recovered from jail inmates and two as unclaimed.
Ironically, the jail is surrounded by high rising buildings and open space along with the back wall and the police find it difficult to track movement of people in these private properties. There had been number of incidents in the past of throwing of packets inside the jail with banned items and the Chinese mobiles are so small which can be thrown by putting in the balls. During last year, around 437 mobiles were recovered from inside the jail and regular recovery speaks of weak security arrangements at the entry points.
Earlier, the jail officials have also been found to be involved in supplying the banned items to the inmates including one doctor, one deputy superintendent. Not only this, an incident of inscribing ‘gangsters’ on the back of one of the inmate had also surfaced. The connivance of staff cannot be ruled under these circumstances.
Divulging with the details, Mandeep Singh, IO said, one mobile with SIM card, during the search operation was found from under-trial prisoner Thomas in barrack number 5 while two mobiles were found as unclaimed from near the ‘bhatian’ with battery and SIM cards. He said, a case under 52-A Prisons Act has been registered against the under trial prisoner already lodged in the jail and unidentified persons and further investigations are on.
