Mobiles, data cables, banned items found in 11 packets thrown in Ferozepur jail
Ferozepur, January 25, 2024: Frequent recovery of banned items and throwing of packets inside the jail with the alleged connivance of jail officials, which cannot be ruled out as is evident from the arrest of two Assistant Superintendents in Ludhiana and incident of 43K calls from two mobiles by three prisoners in Ferozepur jail. As of today, 59 mobiles have been recovered during January 2024 while it was more than 500 mobiles during 2023.
In the recent incident, not only one but there were 11 throws over 30 ft. high walls of the jail resulting in the recovery of 2 mobiles from the open space of backside of barrack number 2, and 280 intoxicant tablets, 103 sachet tobacco, 3 headphone, 6 bundles ‘bidi’ and 3 ‘chilms’, from 11 packets thrown inside the jail, during the search operation carried out by Nirmaljit Singh, Assistant Superintendent.
With heavy and regular recovery of banned items from inside the jail from the open space as unclaimed, dumped under the ground, from the bathrooms, or from the packets thrown over the high walls of jail from the open space and high rising building touching the wall, cannot be ruled out without the connivance of jail officials. The security incident at the entry points and outside in the open space need to be tightened, to curb this menace and to maintain the status of punishment to criminals for keeping them away from the outer world. Now, merely registration of case on recovery of prohibited items against the unknown persons would not suffice.
