Jail inmates twist Ferozepur jail’s security with recovery of mobile, headphone

Ferozepur, March 4, 2022: With the recovery of mobile and headphone – the most wanted among banned items – from the jail inmate has exposed the security arrangements at the entry points and the officials are clueless about the smuggling channel.

On a single day, 11 mobiles were recovered on February 25 including 4 as unclaimed from the jail premises.  During the current year, just in 55 days, 101 mobiles have been recovered.  Moreover, recovery of mobiles after use, as unclaimed in the jail premises which is a continued process puts a question mark on the fissure in security checks.

There is a need to amend the Prisons Act as the police believe lenient laws to deal with the crime of possessing mobile phones in prison is a big hurdle in checking the unauthorized practice.  Offenders are booked under Section 52-A of the Prisons Act which is a bailable offense and for custody of the accused, for in-depth inquiry, the amendment in the Act is the need of the hour.

During the raid conducted under suspicion by Rishavpal Assistant Superintendent, one mobile and head office was recovered from the jail inmate, who has been booked under 52-A Prisons Act (Penalty for introduction or removal of prohibited articles into or from prison and communication with prisoners).

On suspicion, a surprise check was carried out of ‘chakkis’ and one mobile was recovered from Ashok Kumar under trial prisoner at ‘chakki’ number 7 of touch screen Vivo brand with SIM card and JBL Co headphone.
