Mobile found from inside jail, smuggling in poses security threat
Ferozepur July 1, 2021: During the search operation, one mobile was recovered hide under the water tank in Barrack No.4 of Block 2, as unclaimed.
During the year 2020, 112 mobiles and in 2021 in six months period 74 mobiles – in January 7 mobiles, February 10, March 25, April 6, May 4 mobils and 4 headphones and June 20 mobiles, 3 SIM cards and 2 charger have beeen recovered from inside the jail. The jail authorities have failed to put a security check over the smuggling in of mobiles and throwing of packets via ‘Air Route’ in wrapped packets, balls, diapers besides other banned items like ‘zarda’ sachets, opium, drugs etc.
This is not the first time, there had been number of instances when banned items had been found during the search operations from the jail inmates or thrown from over the walls, posing a security threat. All the time new modus operandi is used to smuggle in the mobiles. The mushrooming of high rising buildings along the jail walls had become security threat which is due to compromising with the sale of part of its land under the OUVGL scheme. The only preventive step can be installation of CCTV cameras along with the boundary wall and jammers for which a proposal is already under consideration of the government.
On Thursday, Gurtej Singh, Asstt. Supdt on getting a tip-off, Barrack No.2 of Block 2 was searched and one mobile of Vivo touch screen with SIM card Airtel brand and battery was recovered, hidden under the water tank near the water tap.
Meanwhile, Roshan Lal has been appointed as IO after registration of a case under Section 52-A Prisons Act on the complaint of Assistant Superintendent and further investigations are on.
