MC Polls Ferozepur Final Result : 79.77 percent record polling, Akali-BJP alliance 59, Congress 7, Independents 10, Re-poll at One seat including 25 as unopposed

Ferozepur, February 25 : ( Harish Monga) :  It was a win-win for BJP-SAD alliance in MC elections in Ferozepur with huge turnout of voters seen at the booths resulted in 79.77 per cent polling in the district, 73.63  in Nagar Panchayats at Talwandi Bhai, 86.12 at Mamdot and 87.75 per cent at Mudki.

The polling remained peaceful throughout the day barring a small incident of infighting between the Akali-BJP and Congress and Independent  candidates in Ward No.14 where re-poll has been recommended.

SAD-BJP alliance won 59, Congress 7 and Independents 10 seats in the district while re-poll for one ward No.14 was recommended to the Eelction Commission due to discrepancies in the voters’ list.

For peaceful conduct of the polls in the district, Manjit Singh Narang, was appointed by the Election Commission as Election Observer and Sive Kumar, DIG Crime Police Election Observer.

Earlier, the Akali-BJP alliance at Guruharsahai had won all the 15 seats while a counter cases stands registered against Akalis and Congress leaders attempt to murder and for not allowing the Congress candidates to file their nomination papers.

Sharing a dais jointly by Akalis and BJP on the last of campaign had a played magical impact on the results of Municipal Polls in Ferozepur.  Out of total 31 wards BJP-Akali alliance has won 23 seats, Congress 2 and Independent candidates three seats.  The results of two wards were already decaled being unopposed one each in favour of BJP and SAD.  However, during the last term, SAD had won 4,BJP 12,Congress 5and others 4 in 25 wards.

However, in Ward No.14, the polling was stopped two times as there was difference in the voters list with the Polling Officer and with the Congress candidate.  The Election Commission has ordered the re-poll.  It was considered to be the assured seat for the Congress candidate – Baboo Pardhan who was earlier denied ticket during 2008 but lost by 50 votes only as Independent candidate from his rival candidate Jagga. This too Jagga a sitting MC, was fielded by BJP while four Independent candidates were Sunder, Malkit Kaur, Krishna and Asha were also contesting from this ward.

The unopposed declared candidates are Mandeep Kaur, BJP Candidate from Ward Number 13 has been elected unopposed as her rival, an independent candidate from this ward Balvir Kaur withdrawn her name.  Charanjit Kaur, a wife of  sitting MC and a Candidate of SAD was already elected unopposed from ward number 21 since no candidate was in the opposition. Her Husband Navneet Gora is SAD’s City President.

The polling in ward no.14 was cancelled on objection by the Congress and Independent candidates over the discrepancies  in the voter’s list with the Polling Officer and with the candidates.  While the list with the BJP candidates was matching with the Polling officer, the lists with the Congress and Independent candidates was not showing the voters coming to cast their vote from the ward area.

On entering the three booths area in  Ward No.14 – Booth No.31, 32 and 33 – slogans against the Punjab Government, Punjab BJP President and local leaders were heard.   Even one of the voter alleged of sound of beep of EVMs after casting of vote quite late after coming out from the ‘voting box’ and demanded for re-poll and voting through the ballot papers using in Punjabi – Thappe Wali Vote Pavan Ge.

Immediately on getting the news, the district administration and police personnel reached the spot.  Once the issue was patched and polling was started but again it was stopped when the supporters and Congress and Independent candidates were not finding their name in the voter’s list with the Polling Officer.

Congress MLA Parminder Singh Pinki and Kamal Sharma Punjab BJP President had discussions in the booths campus when ADC, SDM and DSP were also present.  Pinki demanded the re-poll at all the three booths – 31,32 & 33 of ward No.14. The Election Commission has been written for re-poll in ward No14 due to discrepancies in the voters list. Later on, the polling was suspended by the Election Commission.

Frustrated voters also blocked the traffic on the main road outside the booth demanding re-poll.

An incident of death of one retired teacher Parshotam Lal Puri, who suddenly got a heart attack while standing in queue to cast his vote in Ward No.29 was also noticed. He was immediately rushed to private hospital where he was declared dead.

In Municipal Council Zira polls in 17 wards, Akali-BJP alliance got 12 seats, Congress 2 and Independent candidates 3 seats.

Similarly, in Talwandi Bhai polls, 8 had already been declared as unopposed and in the remaining 5 wards, Akali-BJP alliance got 4 and Congress won on one seat.

In Mamdot Nagar Panchayats polls in 13 wards, Akali-BJP alliance won 7 seats, Congress 2 and Independents got 2 seats.

In Mukdi Nagar Panchayats, Akali-BJP alliance won 8 and Congress 5 seats.

In Nagar Panchayat Guruharsahai, in 15 wards, all the 15 Akali-BJP candidates were elected as unopposed.  Similarly, in Ferozepur City 2 and Nagar Panchayat Talwandi Bhai 8 candidates were elected as unopposed.  In all, 25 candidates in the district were elected as unopposed.

Over-all, in these polls, Akali-BJP alliance had a complete majority in these elections.
