Ludhiana makes history: DCM Presidency School becomes first ever school to integrate laughing in school curriculum
LUDHIANA, MAY 7, 2017 : (Harish Monga) : For the first time in Northern India, thousands of families including parents & children came together to celebrate “World Laughter Day” at DCM Presidency School in Ludhiana.
Dr. MadanKataria ,the founder of worldwide ‘Laughter Yoga Movement’, who runs Laughter Clubs in 106 countries, along with his team specially came to participate in the event. Dr. Kataria conducted an amazing session with ‘Ludhianvis’ with his playful laughter exercises, breathing exercises , singing & dancing to the tunes of vibrant music band. “History has been made today as Ludhiana has come on International Laughter Yoga Map” said Dr. Kataria, while lauding the management of DCM Group of Schools for making it possible. It is pertinent to mention that the DCM Presidency School has become the first school in the world to introduce “Smart Brain Laughter Yoga” as part of its curriculum. Around 2000 school children will be participating in Laughter Yoga sessions daily which will help them to stay healthy and fit besides become better learners. Dr. Kataria said that teachers of the schools are also being trained so that they can conduct laughter exercises in their class rooms as an energizer at the beginning and end of their classes to boost the energy level of the students. It was a rare moment to see hundreds of doctors, officials, businessmen & people from all walks of life participating in the “World Laughter Yoga Day” today.
Ms. Kavita Dawar Coordinator (Life skills) said that the school has created a Laughter Yoga class room which will organize 30 minutes session daily to teach children laughing techniques. Ms.Reuben Chahal , Head(Elementary) said that ‘Laughter Yoga’ is a unique programme which promotes health, happiness & world peace without the need of humour or jokes & focuses on cultivation of child like playfulness. “It combines laughing with deep breathing exercises which increases the supply of oxygen to the brain” said Ms. MandeepKaur VP (Ops) adding that as per scientific research, Intentional Laughter provides same health benefits as Natural Laughter.
Ms. Nupur Nutan, Principal said that Laughter Yoga will improve the academic performance of the students & their relationship with parents & teachers. “It will also enhance their emotional intelligence, self confidence & physical stamina” she said.
On the occasion, International Media from Japan, Taiwan also came to cover the event. Several Laughing Clubs from across the world joined today’s celebration on Skype held in Ludhiana for first time.
