Lahore: Dulla Bhatti remembered on 420th martyrdom day
Ferozepur, March 26, 2021: Amid condemning the Mughal empire for public execution, Dulla Bhatti was remembered on his 420th Martyrdom Day at by Chairman, Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation Imtiaz Resheed Qureshi along with few members.
It is that in pre-Partition Punjab, Dulla Bhatti emerged as the ultimate symbol of the composite Punjabi culture – a Muslim landlord who fought for the honour of Brahmin girls, saving them from the Mughal emperor.
Imtiaz Rasheed Qureshi along with Chairman Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation Pakistan, Shamshad Hussain Qadri Seth Bashir Ahmed, Dr Shahid Naseer along with Shahbaz Rasheed Qureshi, Khalid Mehmood Chaudhry, Khadim Hussain and others were present on this occasion.
26th March is remembered as the martyrdom day of Dulla Bhatti who was a rebel fighter in the kingdom of Akbar who was the first fearless farmer of Punjab’s soil who refused to pay taxes (lagan-malia) to the authorities.
Qurehi said, Dulla Bhatti (popularly referred to as the “Son of Punjab” or “Robin Hood of Punjab”, sometimes spelled Dulha Bhatti and also known as Abdullah Bhatti) is a folk hero.
He also acknowledged the work by the film industries of Both Indian Film Industry and Pakistani film industry who have produced films on his life – Dulla Bhatti (2016 Punjabi film) by India and the Pakistani Dulla Bhatti (1956 film).
Qureshi said, every year we visit the graveyard to remember Dulla Bhatti by offering chadar and floral tributes.
