6 yrs on Shadman Chowk not named after Bhagat Singh – Lahore HC adjourns case for Sept 13 in contempt petition by Pak based Foundation<\/p>\n

Ferozepur, June 7, 2024: The Lahore High Court,\u00a0Justice Shams Mehmood Mirza\u00a0has adjourned the case of naming Shadman Chowk after Shaheed Bhagat Singh, for September 24, 2024, filed by Imtiaz Rasheed Querishi, Chairman, Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation.<\/p>\n

Imtiaz Rasheed Qureshi, Chairman, Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation Pakistan, has filed the contempt petitionn against\u00a0Zahid Akhtar Zaman Chief Secretary Government of Punjab, Rafia Haider Deputy Commissioner Lahore and Administrator City District Government,\u00a0for not naming Shadman Chowk after Bhagat Singh, despite passing of 6 years.<\/p>\n

Added here,Qureshi is also fighting in the court of law, to prove the innocence of Bhagat Singh as his name did not figure in the FIR, on whose basis Bhagat Singh alongwith Rajguru and Sukhdev were hanged to death on March 23, 1931.\u00a0 Qureshi has also demanded from both the governments of India and Pakistan, to issue stamps and coin as mark of respect and recognising their sacrifice for the freedom of India besides tendering of apology by the British government to the families of martyrs,.<\/p>\n

Qureshi in his message said, during the hearing, Asghar Laghari, Assistant Advocate General Punjab, apprised the court that there is a request for adjournment of the case by respondent number two Rafia Haider, Deputy Commissioner, Lahore, on which the petitioner’s counsel, Khalid Zaman Khan Kakar, Advocate, said that there was already a lot of delay.<\/p>\n

In the contempt of court case, a position was taken that the writ petition of Imtiaz Rasheed Qureshi Chairman Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation Pakistan was approved by Justice Shahid Jameel Khan Sahib.\u00a0 On September 5, 2018, the City District Government had directed that Shadman Chowk be named after Bhagat Singh, but despite the\u00a0 6 years delay, the City District Government has not yet named Shadman Chowk after Bhagat Singh.<\/p>\n
