148 train services remain affected as farmers\u2019 protest at Shambhu railway station continues<\/p>\n

Ferozepur, May 10, 2024: The farmers under the banner of Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) and Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) non-political have been sitting on tracks of Shambhu railway station, close to the Haryana border, since April 17 demanding the release of three farmers arrested by the Haryana Police.\u00a0 Today, as per the release by the railways, 148 trains were disrupted \u2013 96 diverted, 44 cancelled, 2 short-terminated and 2 short-originated.<\/p>\n

The farmers have now planned a state-level rally in Kaithal on May 19, said farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher, General Secretary, Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee.<\/p>\n

The continued farmers’ rail-roko protest at the Shambhu border has entered its 24th day while the protest has been going on for the last 83 days.<\/p>\n

The ongoing farmers’ protest on the\u00a0Punjab-Haryana border\u00a0has led to multiple train cancellations. According to the schedule released by the Railways, about 184 trains were expected to be affected disrupting the railway schedule for 148 trains.<\/p>\n

The farmers have been protesting at the four borders Shambhu, Khanauri, and Dabwali borders between Punjab and Haryana and permanent camps set up at the Shambhu border by farmers to spend nights.<\/p>\n

The major demands of the farmers are – the execution of a legal guarantee for a\u00a0minimum support price\u00a0(MSP) for their agricultural produce; justice for Shubhkaran Singh, a young farmer from Bathinda, who died on February 21 in clashes between the farmers and police near the Khanauri border separating Punjab and Haryana during the protest for proceeding to Delhi and release of arrested farmers during demonstrations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
