Illegal poppy plantation busted in Ferozepur<\/span><\/p>\n

Ferozepur, April 6, 2024:\u00a0 The Ferozepur<\/span> police, under its drive against drugs and liquor, especially ahead of Lok Sabha elections, conducted a raid, on an input, and busted the illegal opium poppy plantation in the Arif Ke area and seized poppy pods which were planted as intercrop<\/span>, on the back side of the house.\u00a0\u00a0 One person was nabbed and booked\u00a0under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.<\/p>\n

Added here, the legal cultivation of opium poppy is done in selected areas notified by the Central government annually in the states of\u00a0Madhya Pradesh,\u00a0Rajasthan\u00a0and\u00a0Uttar Pradesh.\u00a0The Central Bureau of Narcotics issues licences<\/span> for cultivation\u00a0to selected farmers.\u00a0 In any other part of the country, opium poppy plantations are illegal.<\/p>\n

The police official Jaswinder Singh said that during the patrolling, information was received that near the T-Point of Arif Ke, one Balveer Singh is cultivating poppy at the back of his house and based on the tip-off, during the raid by the police, 15 kg of green poppy plants were seized on the spot.\u00a0 A case has been registered and further investigations are underway, under the provisions of the NDPS<\/span> Act.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
