Maximum recovery of mobiles during 2023 during last 6 years, 437 in 2022 and 516 in 2023<\/p>\n

Ferozepur<\/span>, January 2, 2024:\u00a0 On the second day of the first year, 11 mobiles, 4 chargers, 4 data cables and 326 intoxicant capsules were recovered from the Central Jail during the search carried out by the two Assistant Superintendents.\u00a0 It continued to be a mystery about the reaching of mobiles and other prohibited items from inside the jail despite the three-layer security system and deployment of around 200 cops which speaks of weak security arrangements inside and outside the jail.<\/p>\n

During the last six years, the recovery of mobiles during 2023 had been the maximum.\u00a0 It was 516 during the last year and 437 during 2022.\u00a0 No doubt, the jail authorities are claiming the recovery of mobiles as a good sign but the recovery of mobiles on the higher side, puts a big question mark on the security arrangements.<\/p>\n

With the exposure of drug racket going on in the jail, the High Court has also geared up the senior officers about the poor security arrangement, especially with the surfacing of making 43,000 calls from two mobiles from the jail.\u00a0 The security arrangements both inside and outside need to be tightened to curb this menace otherwise the purpose of keeping the criminals away from the outer world as punishment is lost.<\/p>\n

In the first search operation carried out by Sukhninder<\/span> Singh, Assistant Superintendent, 3 mobiles without battery and SIM cards and 326 suspected intoxicant capsules were found from block number 1, barrack number 4 as unclaimed. In the second such operation by Sarbjit Singh, Assistant Superintendent, 8 mobiles including one iPhone, 4 chargers and 4 data cables were recovered from block number 1, and barrack number 4\u00a0 was recovered without SIM cards.\u00a0 While one mobile was recovered from prisoner Gurvinder Singh alias Guri, the others were found lying unclaimed in the \u2018khud<\/span>\u2019 in the open space outside the barrack.<\/p>\n

A case under the Prisons Act has been registered against the prisoner and unknown persons and further investigations are with Gurmail Singh appointed as IO in this case.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
