Ferozepur<\/span>, July 10, 2023:\u00a0 Due to heavy rains in the upper hills, the water level in Sutlej river has increased and it is flood like situation in border villages Kaluwala<\/span>, Tendiwala<\/span> and Nihala<\/span> Kilcha<\/span> in \u00a0Ferozepur<\/span> and even the barbed wire at the international border has also sunk into the ground resulting in entering of water in about 100 acres of standing crop fields on Indian and Pakistan side.<\/p>\n

With the dismantling of a temporary bridge by the Army between Nihala<\/span> Kilcha<\/span> village and Kaluwala<\/span>, from which even the vehicles could be passed, \u00a0the villagers are facing a lot of inconvenience.\u00a0 Village Kaluwala<\/span> which is already covered from three sides by Sutlej River is cut off from the rest of the world. In view of this alarming situation, the people have been asked to shift to safer places but they are still sticking there.<\/p>\n

Added here, a similar situation had arisen during 2019 when around 50 villages were affected. As per another information, since 1988, 125 villages have been affected 7 times due to floods apart from other villages like Nihala<\/span> Lavera<\/span>, Dhira<\/span> Ghara<\/span>, Talli<\/span> Glam, Badala<\/span>, Mishnewala<\/span> Basti<\/span>, Kale Ke Hittar<\/span>, rukne<\/span> Wala<\/span> and Baggu<\/span> Wali<\/span> Dhani<\/span> which have been affected number of times. In the years 1991, 1995, 2008, 2012, 2013 and 2019, these villages have faced flood like situation.<\/p>\n

On last Sunday, 26,195 cusec water was released at Hussainiwala<\/span> headworks<\/span> and with the release of water from Hari<\/span> Ke, 29 gates were opened towards Pakistan and rest of the gates upto<\/span> 2-3 feet, to control the situation on Indian side.\u00a0 With the regular flow of water from the hills, the water level is again likely to increase at Hari<\/span> Ke which too will have to be released towards Hussainiwala<\/span>.\u00a0 While Hussainiwala<\/span> has 4.50 lac cusec capacity and with flow of 2 lac cusec water, it is medium flood like situation and with 3 lac cusec water level, high flood like situation could be witnessed.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Rajesh Dhiman<\/span>, Deputy Commissioner, Feroepur<\/span> after visiting\u00a0 the flood affected villages along the Sutlej River near Hussainiwala<\/span> International Border along with the SSP Bhupinder<\/span> Singh and Army officers said, we are awre<\/span> of the situation and \u00a0so far under control and monitoring the situation 24×7 hours.\u00a0 We have plugged the breach point and a detailed plan has also been sent to the Central government.\u00a0 The revenue officials have been deputed in all these areas, to help the villagers in shifting the people, animals etc to safer places.<\/p>\n

The district administration is making all out efforts to control the situation and set up control rooms at the sub-division level for getting any latest information and help as well, added DC.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
