Police seek cancellation<\/span> of 966 gun licences<\/span> in Ferozepur<\/span><\/p>\n Ferozepur<\/span>, November 30, 2022:\u00a0 The police have written to the authorities to cancel 966 arms licences<\/span> in the district, under different categories \u2013 keeping more than two weapons, facing criminal charges etc. \u2013 keeping more than two weapons, as per the guidelines of the Punjab government. said SSP Kanwardeep<\/span> Kaur<\/span> while addressing the media persons.<\/p>\n Added here, amid an increase in Gun-centred<\/span> violence in Punjab, the Bhagwant<\/span> Mann-led AAP government has decided to review the weapon licenses issued so far within the next three months. The government has also banned the issuance of a new license unless verified by the District Collector personally. This comes after a recent upsurge in gun violence in the state over the past few months.<\/p>\n In fact, the state had witnessed three major incidents – the killing of Shiv Sena<\/span> (Taksali<\/span>) leader Sudhir<\/span> Suri<\/span> on November 4, Dera<\/span> Sacha<\/span> Sauda<\/span> follower Pardeep<\/span> Singh on November 10 and the killing of famous Punjabi singer Sidhu<\/span> Moosewala<\/span> on May 29.<\/p>\n The drive against the glorification of weapons had been launched on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant<\/span> Mann to curb the trend.\u00a0 Under this drive, verification of licensed weapons is being carried out, besides verifying the addresses of licensees.<\/p>\n SSP said, there are around 21,000 arms licences<\/span> in the district, which is second highest in Punjab after Patiala<\/span> and verification process is still going on.\u00a0 The district administration has issued notices to 319 weapon holders.<\/p>\n Besides, three gun houses have also been checked of their stock of any illegal issuance of ammunition.<\/p>\n A complete ban on the public display of guns is also part of the decision. Additionally, periodic searches in different places shall also happen randomly in the coming days.
