Ferozepur, September 27, 2021:<\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n

Like previous years, Imtiaz Rashid Qureshi, Chairman, Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation (BSMF)\u00a0\u00a0today celebrated Bhagat Singh\u2019s 114th birth anniversary at Democratic Lawn, Lahore High Court, by cutting the cake at Democratic Lawn, Lahore High Court Bar Association.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Speaking on the occasion Qureshi said, Singh was born in a Sikh family in the village of Banga in Lyallpur district, now known as Faisalabad, in present-day Pakistan.\u00a0\u00a0Bhagat Singh along with Rajguru and Sukhdev was sentenced to death for conspiring to kill John Saunders on March 23, 1931, at the age of 23.\u00a0\u00a0He was 21 when he fatally shot a British officer named\u00a0John Saunders in a case of mistaken identity who he assumed was James Scott, the officer behind the assassination of revolutionary Lala Lajpat Rai.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The stories of his bravery are spoken about to date. He is often referred to as a ‘youth icon’ since he started his retaliation against the British rulers at a very young age, he added.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

He further said, both India and Pakistan celebrate his birth anniversary, as a tribute to his bravery and courage in liberating the colonial subcontinent from British rule.\u00a0\u00a0The freedom fighter is credited with popularising the catchphrase “Inquilab zindabad” (Long live the revolution).<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Sharing the celebrations photographs, Qureshi said, a case is going on in the court of law to prove the innocence of Bhagat Singh and his associates as their names did not appeal in the FIR registered at Lahore besides taken up the matter with the government for naming the Shadman Chowk as Bhagat Singh Chowk and releasing the postage stamp.<\/span><\/p>\n

Saying that Bhagat Singh is the son of both India and Pakistan and now both the countries should\u00a0recognize the sacrifice of freedom fighter Shaheed Bhagat Singh both with the highest awards of Bharat Ratna and Nishan-e-Pakistan.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
