Jail staff thwarts attempt of smuggling in of banned items, recover mobiles and accessories<\/strong><\/p>\n Banned items including 3 mobiles found in socks and ball thrown via \u2018air route\u2019 inside jail<\/strong><\/p>\n Ferozepur, August 9, 2021:\u00a0<\/strong> Mobile phones and other accessories along with sachets of tobacco were recovered from inside the jail premises thrown from outside over the high walls in a socks and ball. \u00a0More than 100 mobile phones have been recovered from inside jail during the current year.<\/strong><\/p>\n The regular recoveries of banned items from inside the jail premises have posed a question mark on the security arrangements and the purpose of keeping the prisoners away from the society as punishment is lost. The mushrooming of high rising buildings along the jail walls had become security threat which is due to compromising with the sale of part of its land under the Optimum Utilisation of Vacant Government Land (OUVGL) \u00a0scheme.\u00a0 The only preventive step can be installation of CCTV cameras along with the boundary wall and jammers for which a proposal is already under consideration of the government.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n As per the information, on Sunday at around 10 am, Punjab Home Guard jawana deployed on duty at Tower No.7 Baldev Singh informed that someone unidentified person from outside has thrown something in the garden.\u00a0 Assistant Superintendent, Satnam Singh on visiting the spot found two mobiles key pad Samsung brand with battery but without SIM cards, three chargers with leads, two head phones, one sachet tobacco (\u2018zarda\u2019) and green colour ball containing two sachets of tobacco were found.<\/p>\n On the same in another incident, 40 gm intoxicant powder, one mobile key pad with battery and two SIM Cards was also recovered, thrown from outside.\u00a0 However, one person was arrested by Pesco employee Jaspal Singh, when a car on the backside of the jail between tower number 6 and 7 stopped and tried to throw one banned item inside the jail while the other managed to escape from the scene.<\/p>\n On preliminary investigation, it was revealed by the alleged accused who disclosed his name as Rajiv Sehgal,\u00a0 on searching by the Asstt. Supdt. Hari Singh, the said material was recovered from him, who admitted that he has come to thrown the material at the instance of Jagga Singh inmate and the person along with him who has escaped is Nachhatar Singh.
