Police, Mayank Foundation jointly hold Road Safety Awareness Seminar at DSCE<\/p>\n

Ferozepur, February 12, 2021:\u00a0 This year, Mayank Foundation \u2013 a leading NGO of the city \u2013 has taken the initiative to celebrate the month-long National Road Safety Awareness Seminars in schools and colleges of the district from January 17 to February 18 in collaboration with the Punjab Police Traffic unit.<\/p>\n

In this context, today the Seminar was held at the campus of Dev Samaj College of Education, attended by around 200 girl students.<\/p>\n

Principal, Dr.Rajwinder Kaur welcomed Mayank Foundation and Police Department teams members, with presentation of bouquet, \u00a0for organizing a Seminar, to put wiser the students of pluses and minuses on road safety measures.<\/p>\n

According to the report of the International Road Organization (IRF), 12.5 lakh people worldwide die in road accidents every year. India’s share in this is over 10 percent. According to NCRB data, 4,37,396 road accidents occurred in the year 2019, in which 1,54,732 people died and 4,39,262 people were injured. While 59.6 percent of road accidents were caused by high speed, 86,241 people died and 2,71,581 were injured in road accidents due to over speeding. Behind all these accidents are the uses of alcohol, drugs, talking on mobile while driving, excessive congestion in vehicles, driving faster than the legal speed and fatigue etc.<\/p>\n

Dr.Gazalpreet Singh Arneja, Founder member presented the history of Mayank Foundation since its existence, through Power Point Presentation.<\/p>\n

Lakhbir Singh, Traffic Lecturer, Police Department, giving road safety tips, in his distinctive Punjabi style asked the students to ensure to always keep handy with them four documents \u2013 RC, Pollution certificate, insurance cover, driving licence and importantly helmet as the majority of the reported deaths in road accidents due to head injuries.<\/p>\n

Harish Kumar, a Social Activist, expressing concern over the alarming statistics of deaths in road accidents gave the tip of the \u2018road safety mantra\u2019 \u2013Drive-in Queue and Drive at a Distance, to enjoy the various colours of life. \u00a0\u00a0He said, there is a need to make the Road Safety Signs erected on the roadside a Role Model.<\/p>\n

On this occasion, staff and students of the above schools were also administered an oath to follow the traffic rules, besides presenting helmets to 5 students.\u00a0 The key-note speakers have also presented a token of love on behalf of the DSCE.<\/p>\n

Dr.Gagandeep Kaur, Incharge NSS Unit nicely performed as the Master-of-Ceremony of the event. A vote of thanks was presented by Dr.Parmveer Singh.\u00a0 Founder Mayank Foundation Deepak Sharma and members Ashok Behal, Secretary Red Cross Society, Rajeev Setia, Deepak Grover, Harnam Singh were also present on this action.<\/p>\n
