In a big haul, Excise department seized 1,80,000 ltrs ‘lahan’, 600 bottles illicit liquor
Ferozepur: In a big haul, the Excise department on Sunday seized 1,8,000 ltrs ‘lahan’, 600 bottles of illicit liquor seized from villages near Sutlej River and destroyed on spot to avoid its misuse.
The illicit liquor business, using ‘lahan’ (raw material for making liquor), has been going on in border areas for a long time. To check the illegal manufacture and sale of illicit liquor, the raids are conduced as a part of operations to control it, said an excise official.
An excise raid was conducted in the enclaves of river Satluj in the surrounds of villages Ali Ke, Chandiwala, Habib Ke, Nehangan Wala Chughe and Chakar Da Bedha, under the supervision of Excise Inspector Gurbakhsh Singh, Zira along with excise force Ferozepur, said excise official, adding destroying the seized ‘lahan’ and illicit liquor, on the spot on its recovery is to avoid any mishap on its misuse.
