Gandhigiri by Police Officials: Law breakers offered roses to wear helmets in future
Ferozepur, March 12, 2023: The commuters took it as a surprise when the police cops, usually spotted with a stick or weapon, were seen offering flowers to city residents who were not obeying traffic rules during a special awareness drive conducted in the city. The vehicle users were requested to follow traffic rules as together the people could make the city a better place for the coming generations.
The police had laid a massive ‘naka’ at Shaheed Udham Singh Chowk, but went slow on challenging traffic violators and instead were seen educating commuters and offering red rose by SP(D) Randhir Kumar himself, with promise to face a challan next time.
Gandhigiri by Ferozepur police brought acclaims for them from the common public as they have found an innovative and peaceful way of spreading awareness to common people about the importance of wearing helmets for their life and to obey the traffic rules and regulations on road. More than 3,000 challans were issued during the current year for violating the traffic rules.
Police have decided to offer rose flowers to the violators on being influenced by Gandhi’s principles that crime is a social disease, and therefore criminals required suitable reformative treatment, and not punishment. Gandhi wanted the Police to be replaced with peace volunteers. But Gandhi realized that this wasn’t possible till the masses understood and lived the creed of non-violence. Gandhi also exhorted that the Police must be like friends to the public.
Police officials on the duty said that they choose to give red roses so that people should know their life is valuable and beautiful like flowers don’t put it at risk by not wearing the helmets on the road as it could prove fatal for them in case of any accident.
SP(D) Randhir Kumar said, our intention is not to shame them by giving roses but with a view to make them wiser to learn a lesson with love so that they don’t violate the rules again. In this way, if they themselves will be safe, then they will also keep others safe. Apart from this, the process of cracking down on anti-social elements will also continue.
He also informed that during the current year in 70 days, 3,010 challans have been issued and most of them are vehicles without number plates or any valid documents and triple riding, bullet cracks. He said, the police attitude towards the violators will be stricter now onward.
