Following smuggling network bust using e-money from Central jail, more mobiles seized from gangster, under trial prisoners
Ferozepur, October 9, 2023: Following the busting of a smuggling network, using digital money or e-money at Central Jail by the Counter Intelligence, more mobiles, charger, adopter, data cables have been seized during the search operation from gangster prisoners and under trial prisoners.
Smuggling network was being run by three prisoners with the help of wives of two inmate’s for making and receiving payments through UPI mobile app and transaction of Rs.1.13 crore was detected after the arrest of one of the prisoner Raj Kumar’s wife Neeru Bala.
Frequent recovery of mobiles along with other banned items from inside the jail and running of smuggling networks, has put a question mark on the inside and outside security of the jail premises. The purpose of keeping the prisoners behind the bar away from the outer world as punishment is also lost, either unintentionally or with the connivance of the staff with the recovery of banned items.
During the search operations conducted on October 6 and 7 on a tip-off, one mobile blue colour with battery but without SIM card key pad was recovered from gangster under trial prisoner Prince @ Mani of Tarn Taran presently at Central Jail Ferozepur during the search of chakki number 5 of ahata number 2.
In the second search operation,4 mobile, 2 charger adopted and two data cables were recovered – one from prisoner Gagandeep Singh of Patrewala in Abohar district Fazilka with battery and SIM card in ward number 1, one from the bag lying in ward number one and chakki number 5 which under trial prisoner Tarsem Singh alias Keron Pehlwan of Tarn Taran admitted about the bag. After this, the search was carried on the roofs of the chakkis, one mobile, one charger with data cable and one charger with data cable were found.
Meanwhile a case under Prisons Act has been registered against the prisoners and unidentified persons and further investigations as usual in other such cases are on.
