Ferozepur Police Bust Major Drug Ring, Seize Heroin and Arms Cache

Ferozepur, August 19, 2024: In a significant crackdown against narcotics and illegal arms smuggling, the Ferozepur Police, led by SSP Saumya Mishra, achieved a breakthrough. Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested two suspects—21-year-old Vishal Udan Jaili and 24-year-old Sonu—both heavily involved in drug and arms trafficking across the region.
This operation marks a crucial victory in the ongoing fight against drug smuggling and maintaining law and order under the guidance of Punjab’s DGP.
The arrests, made on August 18, 2024, were the result of a meticulously planned operation led by SP (Investigation) Randhir Kumar, DSP (D) Varinder Singh, and CIA Staff Incharge Mohit Dhawan. The police seized a substantial quantity of illegal contraband, including 1.5 kg of heroin, Rs 12.9 lakh in drug money, and a .315 bore country-made pistol with seven live cartridges. Additionally, an Innova car used in the crime was confiscated. The operation was conducted under FIR number 85, filed at Kulgarhi police station under various sections of the NDPS Act and the Arms Act.
SSP Mishra revealed that Vishal, alias Shelly, from Zira, has a history of nine criminal cases under the NDPS and Arms Acts, while Sonu, also from Zira, is facing seven cases under similar charges, including one as recent as July 2024.
The two suspects were under surveillance due to their links with notorious drug syndicates operating in Ferozepur and surrounding areas. Under the guidance of SI Gurdeep Singh, the police carefully orchestrated the operation to capture the culprits and halt the spread of narcotics in the region.
Further investigations suggest these arrests may be connected to a larger drug trafficking network spanning multiple districts. Authorities are now intensifying efforts to identify and apprehend other members involved in this illegal operation, exploring both backward and forward linkages.
In addition to these efforts, the Ferozepur Police are conducting seminars under the “Navekli Pehal” initiative at schools and colleges, aiming to educate and motivate youth to steer clear of drugs. These initiatives include counselling and rehabilitation support for those at risk, addressing the social evil of drug addiction.
