Ferozepur Lok Sabha Elections-2024 : 16.70 lac voters to decide fate of MP candidates – Equations changing on daily basis
Ferozepur Lok Sabha Elections-2024 : 16.70 lac voters to decide fate of MP candidates – Equations changing on daily basis
With few days left for campaigning ahead of Lok Sabha elections scheduled for June 1 in Punjab, the winning equations are changing on daily basis on account of gatherings at the rallies, leaving one party and joining another party, with outside and distance commitments and of course voters’ own experiences about the previous candidates and assurances during the current manifestos.
In all the 9 Assembly constituencies, there are 16,70,008 lac voters – 8,80,617 male, 7,89,343 female and 48 third genders – who will decide the fate of candidates for Lok Sabha MP elections in Punjab on June 1. There was an increase of 56,166 new votes during the last five years when the elections were held in 2019.
This time, to increase the voter’s percentage, 50 model polling booths which include 15 green/eco-friendly, 12 disabled, 12 youths and 15 women polling stations will be set up. Besides, various activities are being carried out ahead of the scheduled voting date.
It is also difficult to say when still six days re left for campaigning, as to who will win but during current elections, with no alliance of SAD and BJP, Congress fielding its candidates on all the seats in Punjab and 8 MLAs in the Punjab, including Ferozepur and AAP having support of 8 MLAs in Ferozepur Lok Sabha constituency, there is massive anti-incumbency against AAP and especially BJP by the farmers’ open protest in the villages for asking reply to their questions and Akalis are insignificant and unimportant. At the same time, Akalis had held the Ferozepur seat for the last six times and kept eye on its victory for the seventh time.
Ferozepur being border constituency, the cast factor of – Rai Sikh, Jatt Sikhs, Kambojs and Aroras – who have good vote bank looks to be a deciding reason but the questions all the three candidate of major political parties – other than AAP – BJP (Rana Gurmeet Singh Sodhi who is four time MLA from Guruharsahai and former Sports Minister during Congress and later on joined BJP), Congress (Sher Singh Ghubaya, who too had won twice this seat as an Aka.i candidate in 2009 and 2014 but lost in 2019 as Congress candidate) and SAD (Nardev Singh Mann, who is younger son of former three time MP and Akali stalwart Zora Singh Mann from 1998 to 2004) have good number of vote banks in their bags.
Whatever may be the outcome, so far, the equations are changing on a daily basis in favour of all the four major political party candidates – AAP, BJP, SAD and Congress and it is still a 4-cornered contest in Ferozepur.
