Ferozepur Foundation installs Free Lights on Cycles to stop road accidents
Ferozepur, July 4, 2023: The most vulnerable vehicles on the road are bicycles, especially if they are used in the dark of the night. A motor vehicle comes with headlights and rear lights to make the other vehicles on the road aware of its presence but for a cycle, this is not the case.
Witnessing number of cycle accidents during the night especially during the smoggy winter in the past which led to death in certain cases, the Ferozepur Foundation has made its mission, in addition to the Langar Seva going for the past four years, to save cycle riders from such accidents by installing flashing caution lights on cycles for free. This initiative of installing red lights in the cycles for free began with the aim of reducing the chances of road accidents for cyclists.
Old-timer M.L.Tiwari said, the earliest bicycle lamps were oil-fueled and there used to be lights on the bicycle fitted with dynamo on the rear wheel but it vanished with the passage of time, from the normal cycles. However, the regular cyclists now move with proper tool kits and put on a helmet, water bottle, and cycle fitted with front and back lights.
In conversation with Shalinder – founder Ferozepur Foundation said, on the very first day, 100 flashing caution lights were fixed on the cycles for free and we hope to cover almost all the cycle riders in Ferozepur and adjoining villagers who are daily commuters to the city and go back late in the evening, to save them from on road accidents. He said, even such small efforts, if imitated by 1000 in the country, can save more than 10000 lives every year.
He said, cyclists are prone to accidents and we are here to help them within our limited resources at the local level and we welcome the financial assistance from any corporate house to continue this project on a large scale.
