Ferozepur, September 27, 2019: Having number of achievements to his credit as cyclist and taking a unique initiative to salute the brave hearts who brought freedom to India, Ferozepur based Sohan Singh Sodhi, popularly known as ‘Tripple S’, after paying tributes to revolutionaries on their ‘samadh’, was given warm send-off for his journey on cycle, ahead of his 112th birthday anniversary on September 28, to Khatkar Kalan to collect soil from there to plant tree at Hussainiwala in memory of Bhagat Singh.
Khatkar Kalan is famous for the memorial of Bhagat Singh, who was born in Banga in Pakistan in 1907 and after whom the district is also named
Sodhi started his journey at 5 am in the morning and reached at Khat Khat Kalan at 3.30 pm covering around 183 km at a speed of 19.9 km/h. He was given a send-off by two other local of Ferozepur and Jaswinder Singh Sandhu, Chairman and members of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Rajguru Suhdev Memorial Foundation – who are organising various programmes throughout the year in remembrance of martyrs.
Sohan Singh Sodhi has passion for cycling has almost covered 35,000 km, is determined to cover the highest kilometers on cycling equal to the score by the Indian Cricket Team. He drives regularly in the early morning from 40-50 kms daily. He was honoured on Independence Day function at Ferozepur for his achievements in participating in number of brevets of 100, 200, 300, 400, 600 kms and preparing for 1000 km.
Sohan Singh will be bringing the soil from Khat Khat Kalan on the birthday of Bhagat Singh on September 28 morning, to mix it with the land at Hussainiwala to plant a sapling in memory of Bhagat Singh.
On asking him about his aim for cycling today, Sohan Singh said, he had a long desire to visit Khatkar Kalan and collect the soil to plant a tree at Hussainiwala. The other factor is to give a message to the youths of India to maintain the freedom of independent India for which Bhagat Singh and his associates has given their sacrifice by accepting the gallows happily to free India from Britishers. He said, every common man should think about the sacrifice of martyrs for the sake of people of the India.
He also appealed to the youths to follow the foot-steps of Bhagat Singh to take India to the new heights by keeping themselves away from social evils and drugs.
Sodhi will be coming back on Saturday on the 112th birthday celebrations of Bhagat Singh to plant a tree at Hussainiwala where he will be given a warm welcome by the society.
