Cantonment residents demands merger of civil dominated area in notified civil area
Ferozepur, August 29, 2023: Ferozepur Cantt Bachao Sangharsh Committee today in its meeting demanded merger of civil dominated areas into notified civil areas.
Yogesh Gupta, nominated Member Cantonment Board said that the notified area in Ferozepur cantonment has been taken according to the population at the time of independence, but today the population has increased significantly in the area. According to Section 46 of the Cantonment Act, the civil populated area should be included in the notified civil area and the boundaries of the civil area can be delineated after the census, he added.
Yogesh Gupta along with Rajnish Kalra, Kamal Kochar and others said, India was ruled by the British for 200 years and the British Government then implemented the Governor General Order GGO 1836 in all the Cantonment Councils of the country, which is still in force today. He said that today the people of the camp are only owners of the rubble, while the land is in the name of the Government of India, due to which the people can neither build it nor can they sell it to someone else.
Advocate Yogesh Gupta said that a delegation along with Punjab BJP Yuva Morcha Vice President Abhishek Dhawan also met the country’s Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday and submitted a memorandum demanding that the court cases of cancelling the sale deed done on the people living in the civil area in Ferozepur Cantonment should also be stopped.
Yogesh Gupta said that the high officials of the Cantonment Board filed hundreds of court cases against the people to protect their officials. He said that gross injustice is being done to the people, which should be stopped by the government. The central government should include the Ferozepur Cantonment area in the municipality as soon as possible so that the people can get freedom from the British rules. He further said that near the assembly elections of 2022, it was told by the higher authorities that documents have been sent to merge the civil area here, but no action has been taken yet.
Ferozepur Cantt Bachao Sangharsh Committee members said that we will continue to raise our voice before the higher authorities and the central government. Later, a memorandum was submitted to Cantonment Board CEO Promila Jaiswal by the cantonment members.
Kamal Kochhar, Manmohan Bhasin, Rajnish Kalda, Indra Gupta, Goldie and others were present on this occasion.
