Coronavirus: 64 prisoners released on parole from Ferozepur Jail to contain Covid-19 outbreak

Ferozepur, March 28, 2020: In the wake of outbreak of Coronavirus throughout the world, the Punjab government, to reduce the number of prisoners in the jails in the state, today released 64 prisoners on 6 weeks parole.

The decision of sending the prisoners on parole has been taken to decongest jails in an attempt to contain the Covid-19 outbreak.

Karanjit Singh Sandhu, Superintendent Jail informed that on the recommendations of high panel committee as per the directions of Supreme Court, only those prisoners have been released on parole whose sentence period is seven years or less.
