Farmer commits suicide in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, May 30, 2016: Farmer suicide in India is the intentional ending of one's life by a person dependent on farming as their primary source of livelihood and one such incident of suicide by a farmer Ajit Singh, 60 – by hanging himself with ceiling fan – unable to clear his debt, has been reported from village Sille Vind in Makhu Block in Ferozepur.
According to Darshan Singh a close relative of the deceased said, sometime back, Ajit Singh has faced disability from one of his leg despite around Rs.5 lac on his treatment.
He further stated that the farmer had a loan limit of the bank which had accrued to Rs.15 lac including interest. Ajit Singh had to sell his 4 acre of land out of total 8 acres for his treatment and to repay the loan as the bank officials were repeatedly reminding for clearing the loan.
