Excise, police in joint operation 37,000 ltrs ‘lahan’ recovered and destroyed to avoid its misuse
Ferozepur, April 7, 2021: Tightening noose around the bootlegging and smuggling of illicit liquor by taking a lesson from the hooch tragedy in Tarn Taran and Amritsar during the last year, taking more than 100 lives, has once again launched crackdown drive, on this menace and recovered 37,000 ltrs ‘lahan’ in a special joint operation by the excise and police departments, under the tutelage of Deputy Commissioner Excise, J.S.Brar.
Divulging with the details, J.S.Brar said, on Wednesday, a joint raid was conducged in the enclaves of Sutlej River in the surroundings of village Nihange Wala Chuge and Chandi Wala near the Indo-Pak border by a team of Excise Inspectors, Gurbaksh Singh and P.S.Virk along with the force. During the raid, approximately 37,000 ltrs ‘lahan’ was recovered and destroyed on the spot to avoid its misuse. The other material used like 35 tarpaulins, 10 drums and 3 aluminum utensils were taken into custody.
Meanwhile, a case has been handed over to Narcotic Cell, Ferozepur for further investigation and action, said Brar adding that a strict vigil is being kept on the working stills of country-made illicit liquor and to wipe out this menace, the campaign against the mischievous elements involved in this trade would be a regular feature on the basis of inputs and tip-offs about brewing illicit liquor and they will not be spared to face the music of law.
