Educate masses through social media about adverse effects of drug addiction: Rana Sodhi

Ferozepur, August 7, 2018:  In view of the widespread impact of the drug abuse in the state, a war level campaign has been started for drug-free Punjab.

In order to provide awareness about the adverse effects of drug addiction, DAPO test understanding campaign among the villagers has also been started beside taking the strict action against the drug peddlers by the Punjab Police. To educate the masses, the message on social media be also floated about the adverse effects of drug addiction., said Cabinet Minister Sports and Youth Services Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi at the launching of the anti-drug campaign started at Aggarwal College of Nursing at Guruhsahai.

Earlier, Dr.Pawan Aggarwal, Chairman of the college, welcomed the Cabinet Minister and formally inaugurated the Community Centre at Mohan Ke Uttar at a cost of Rs.41 lacs.

On this occasion, SSP Pritam Singh, SDM Guruharsahai Kuldeep Bawan and Guru Hardeep Singh Sodhi were also present.

In his address, the Cabinet Minister said that the monitoring committees have been constituted in the district under the DAPO campaign and special education seminars, by forming the cluster village, are being conducted for the youths about the adverse effects of intoxicants.

He said that instructions have been issued to the Police Department to take strict action against drug peddlers and to arrange treatment in drug addicts at Drug De-addiction Centres.  To protect the youths from the adverse effects of drug addiction, a message through social media should also be floated to the masses, he added.

Rana Sodhi desired that a tip-off is given to the police and district administration so that the drug menace could be eradicated permanently from the state.

Talking about to motivate the youths towards sports, Rana Sodhi said, the government is coming up with the new policy for construction sports stadiums.

Praising the college management, he said, the starting of the anti-drug campaign by the college is appreciable and an example will be set to make the four adopted villages drug-free by organizing special rallies and seminars, within a period of three months.

Making an appeal to the youths of the district, SSP Pritam Singh said, the information about the drug peddlers is arranged to the police,  to save the youths from the drug abuse.  He, however, said the name of the informer will be kept completely confidential and strict action will be taken against drug traffickers.

Present among others on this occasion were DSP Jasbir Singh, SMO Dr.Rajinder Machanda, Principal Aggarwal Nursing College Madam Jagdeep Kaur, Secretary Red Cross-cum-OSD, Ashok Behal, Ravi Sharma, Vikramjit Singh Bedi, Rakesh Kumar Baggi, Ravi Chawla, Raju Sayanwala, Navneet Garg, Hardeep Singh, Kaka Vohra, Lucky Mankatala, Ajay Bedia and in good number of college students, staff member and resident of the area.
