Ferozepur DM imposes Section 144 to prohibit on bringing or keeping banned items in jail premises
Ferozepur, June 7, 2023: With recovery of around 240 mobiles during the current year, recently 11 mobiles on June 2 and 2 mobiles today, from inside the jail, which reached to the inmates with illegal means at the entry points, by throwing packets over the 30 ft high walls, and in connivance with jail and hospital staff, is indicative of initiation of crimes within and outside the jail premises, which is likely to disturb peace and order.
Keeping this in view the District Magistrate in exercise of powers under Section 144 of Cr.PC, has prohibited on bringing or keeping directly or indirectly prohibited articles/instruments in the jail premises, prohibited under Punjab Jail Rules 2022 or any other law. These orders will remain in force for two months from the date of issue.
He said, the crimes take a serious form with the entry of banned and illegal items inside the jail. Threats to human life, public safety, security and public property inside and outside the prison may also pose a threat.
No doubt the alert jail staff recovered the illegal entry of banned items inside the jail premsies but it remains a question mark on the security arrangements at the entry points and no proper checking of throwing of packets containing mobiles and drugs etc. Despite 30 ft high walls, flow of current in wires, having 8 security towers, the in-flow of banned items is a continued process.
With the movement of drones on the border line and recovery of huge consignment of heroin by the BSF and police officials, the jail authorities are also worried over the use of drones from across the border or by some unscrupulous persons for dropping the banned items inside the jail with remote control.
Meanwhile, Gurnam Lal, Superintendent Jail said, the security in and around the jail premises has been intensified to keep a complete check on the movement which might pose threat to the jail.
