Ferozepur/Ladakh, September 3, 2024 – In a profound act of homage, a 28-member delegation of Police officers from various State Police and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), led by Manoj Yadava, Director General of Railway Protection Force (RPF), gathered at the Hot Springs Memorial in Ladakh to honour police martyrs. The ceremony marked a significant milestone as Yadava became the first DG of RPF to lead the delegation, joined by Deputy Leader  N. Prakash Reddy, DIG of Telangana Police, and representatives from Punjab and Haryana Police.

Amidst the stark, high-altitude landscape at 15,400 feet near the Line of Actual Control (LAC), the delegation paid tribute to the ten CRPF personnel who sacrificed their lives defending the nation on October 21, 1959. Gallant officers and men of the ITBP, ITBF, and the Indian Army, who maintain a vigilant presence at the LAC under challenging conditions, also joined in the tribute.

A highlight of the event was the presence of  Sonam Dorjey, an 86-year-old veteran and a member of the original patrolling party who faced Chinese troops in the fateful encounter of 1959. His bravery and resilience continue to inspire the current generation of law enforcement officers.

This pilgrimage to the Hot Springs Memorial has been a cherished tradition since 1960, where police officers from across the country, both serving and retired, gather annually to honor their fallen comrades. yadava dedicated this year’s pilgrimage to the 1,011 brave personnel of the Railway Protection Force who have laid down their lives in the line of duty since the Force’s inception in 1958.

His participation reinforced the unity, strength, and camaraderie shared among the various Police Forces in India, underscoring the enduring spirit of duty, valor, and sacrifice that defines the Indian Police fraternity. The event serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by Police officers in the service of the nation and a source of inspiration for all members of the law enforcement community.
