Creche in Administrative Complex Ferozepur to help women strike work-family balance
Ferozepur, June 2, 2017: In a first-of-its-kind initiative in the state, the District Administration has opened a crèche in the administrative complex keeping in view the problem to look after small children of women workers of 1-3 years age, in view of the present family set-up, said Ramvir, Deputy Commissioner, Ferozepur.
It is pertinent to mention that in India, nuclear families are growing especially in urban areas. The traditional concept of join families has shifted and so the need for caregivers and caretakers of the children has taken a turn too. There is a strong need to create spaces of support for these couples and most importantly, the women looking to balance work and family when she has to take the harsh decision of chossing between what she wants more and what is expected out of her.
Since majority of women give up their jobs during their ‘start a family’ period in life and the major oint seen is the sheer absence of day care at the workplace. They are forced to choose between work and children, instead of adapting itself to the changing roles of women in our society.
A retired and working couple, when contacted about the concept of crèches in India, said, we advocate its opening rather passing a bill for Creches in Establishment in view of the present se up of nuclear family system.
Deputy Commissioner said, it was the long pending demand of the working women facing lot of inconvenience while on duty that there is no one at home to look after their children in view of single family system. The district administration has taken the initiative to start a crèche in room number 18, B Clock in DAC Complex, equipped with modern infrastructure.
He said, in this crèche, the children will be taken care of their basic needs and for their convenience, AC, LED, Playway Method toys to teach them, clean drinking water, refrigerator, microwave besides other required infrastructure – have been made available in the room. Apart from this, a nurse has been appointed to look after the children and expert doctor will also check up the children once a week.
Admission in the crèche has been started and shortly it will be formally inaugurated. The charges will be Rs.1000 per child per month. The timings will be 8.30 am to 5.30 pm. Interested women can admit their children of the age of 1-3 years, he added.
