Crackdown on illicit liquor in Ferozepur, destroys unclaimed 46,000 litres ‘lahan’
Ferozepur, September 11, 2021: Launching a crackdown against the bottlegging and smuggling of illicit liquor, the excise team was conducted, under the supervision of Excise Inspector, Circle Zira, Gurbaksh Singh, at the hideouts in the enclaves of river Satluj in the surrounds of village Ali ke, Habib ke , Nehanganwale chughe , Chandiwala , Raje Ki Gatti , Chakar Da Bedha & Near Puggar Di Motor and destroyed on the spot unclaimed 46,000 ltrs ‘lahan’ and 900 bottles of ‘illicit liquor’.
It is pertinent to mention that a majority of the population settled along the banks of Sutlej River belongs to minority communities and most male members of the village are daily-wagers. These people have not been getting any lucrative employment offers and hence taking up illicit liquor trade to make both ends meet.
However, 23 trpaulins and 4 rubber tubes have been taken into custody. Police authorities have been informed to proceed further in this recovery.
