Cops swoop down on banned Chinese thread sellers
Ferozepur, January 23, 2020: Working actively on the use of banned thread, the Ferozepur Police has booked one person under on recovery of banned Chinese thread for flying kites.
The district administration had already issued orders banning the China-made thread, which is dangerous for both humans and animals. The police force is out on a drive, checking different parts of the city looking for illegal sellers.
A senior police official said, a special campaign was being carried out to check the incidents of injuries due to Chinese thread adding that they could also be booked under Sections 39 and 51 of Wildlife Protection Act 1972 and Section 15 of Environment Protection Act 1986. The accused was however, released on surety being non-bail able offence. Meanwhile, the awareness is also being spread about the harmful effects of China-made thread through the local NGOs. Three years ago, the National Green Tribunal – NGT – had banned the use of any synthetic thread coated with glass or other abrasives for flying kites.
Giving this information, Amandeep Singh, IO said, the police party was patrolling in the area of Bansi Gate when a tip-off was received that Nitin Kumar, who is doing the business of selling Chinese thread is waiting for the customers at Arya Samaj Chowk. He further said, when a raid was conducted at the designated place, 80 Chinese thread rolls were recovered. Nitin Kumar owner of the shop has been booked under Section 188 of IPC (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant).
